Drone footage has revealed the extent of damage to a former Victorian church after part of its facade collapsed onto the street below.
Large chunks of stonework fell from the roof of the building in Cleckheaton, which is now The Monal wedding venue, onto Bradford Road at about 10:00 BST on Saturday.
Footage shared on social media appeared to show the masonry narrowly avoiding two people, and police said no one was injured in the incident.
In a statement, a Monal spokesperson said staff were assessing the damage and hoped to welcome guests back soon: “While there has been some disruption to our usual activities, we are actively working to resolve the situation.”
“Our team is assessing everything to ensure the space remains safe, secure, and welcoming for everyone,” the spokesperson added.
In their statement, the spokesperson confirmed no injuries had been reported and “everyone is completely safe”.
“We deeply appreciate your patience and understanding during this time,” they said.
On the drone footage, damage to the facade of the building and the arched roof can be seen, with big blocks of stone in the road, just across from a bus stop.
According to Historic England, the building was originally constructed as a church by Lockwood and Mawson of Bradford between 1857 and 1859.
The two-storey former Providence Place church was first listed in 1982.
More recently, the building was home to Aakash, believed to be one of Britain’s biggest Indian restaurants, before it was transformed into a wedding venue.
On Saturday, police said Kirklees Council’s highways department was managing the road closure.
