Driver runs away after rolling car in Wisbech crash

CCTV footage shows the moment a man fled the scene of a crash after ignoring a red light.

A Nissan Terrano driven by Steven Codona, 30, collided with a Peugeot 307 that was turning right on Churchill Road, in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, on 22 May 2002 at about 16:30 BST.

Codona’s vehicle rolled over due to the force of the impact and he was seen crawling out of the window before running away.

The 60-year-old driver of the other car had to undergo surgery to repair an open fracture to his ankle and was treated for injuries to his collarbone, pelvis, sternum, ribs and lungs.

Codona, of Stow Road, Wisbech, admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving and was jailed for two-and-a-half years at Peterborough Crown Court on 22 April.

He was also disqualified from driving for six years and three months.
