Derry: Security alert and disorder as PSNI attend sudden death

Police are attending a security alert in Southway, in the Creggan area of Londonderry.

Cordons are in place and the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) says officers “are also dealing with ongoing disorder”.

It is understood the disorder began while officers were attending the scene of the sudden death.

A suspicious object was subsequently discovered in the area.

Masonry, petrol bombs and other items have been thrown resulting in damage to a number of vehicles.

The PSNI are asking members of the public to avoid the area.
