Danny Rohl: Sheffield Wednesday boss leaves crisis-hit club

The German took over at Hillsborough in October 2023 with the side having made their worst-ever start to a season and he led them on a fantastic run of form to avoid relegation back to League One.

Wednesday then finished 12th in 2024-25 but won just one of their final nine matches as their play-off push faded away.

After the final game of last season at Watford Rohl intimated that his time at the club could be up, before the off-field issues took centre stage.

The Owls start the new Championship season with a trip to relegated Leicester City on Sunday, 10 August.

The former Southampton and Bayern Munich coach’s exit means that of the 18 teams who played in the Championship last season and will play in the second tier again this season only Portsmouth have not changed manager.
