Daniel James scored a fine long-range goal to seal victory against Hull and basked in the cheers of a packed Elland Road crowd

Boss Daniel Farke said it was fitting for winger Daniel James to set his Euro 2024 disappointment aside and star for Leeds United in Easter Monday’s 3-1 Championship win over Hull City.

The 26-year-old scored on his club return as Leeds moved up to second.

“He really deserved to score this goal,” Farke told BBC Radio Leeds.

The Leeds manager said the goal came “after a really tough time” for James.

Farke said: “He’s a brilliant lad. It says all about the Leeds United family. We’re happy for him, we are there for all family members.”

James was a constant threat, along with fellow scorer Crysencio Summerville, as Leeds overcame the Tigers at a packed, vibrant Elland Road.

The stoppage-time clincher from the Hull-born winger was a perfect finish, as he kept his cool to chip into an empty net from distance with Hull piling back to cover.

It was not his only contribution to the match, as Farke paid tribute to James’ work-rate and commitment as well as a timely strike.

“It was also a crucial and important goal and that is even more important,” Farke added.

“His identification with this club is second to none. He always works hard. He had to support our full-backs and he was great in his work against the ball, could have an assist and had one or two good chances.”
