Cyclist who stabbed driver through window convicted of murder

Previously, prosecutor Jacob Hallam KC had described how, on the day of the murder, Mr Josephs’ grey BMW was caught on CCTV travelling down Malyons Road and then back again minutes later, before crashing.

“Inside it, Mr Josephs was dying,” said Mr Hallam. “He had been stabbed deeply into his body, the wound cutting into his liver and his aorta – one of our body’s most important blood vessels.”

The court also heard that a witness had seen Mr Josephs talking to a man on a mountain bike through his car’s open window.

After a minute, the witness heard the sound of metal scraping the ground and saw a bike being dragged along by the car, Mr Hallam told the court.

The cyclist was then seen to draw a knife from a sheath and make a stabbing motion through the car window, jurors were told.

In his defence, Gonladieu claimed that Mr Josephs had a gun and his passenger had a knife.

He said he grabbed the blade and stabbed Joseph in preventative self-defence.

On Friday, a jury rejected his version of events and found Gonladieu guilty of murder and possession of a knife.

Adjourning sentencing until 23 July, Judge Anuja Dhir KC said: “I hope the end of this trial and the sentence next Tuesday is able to provide the family of Mr Joseph some comfort.”

A post-mortem examination found Mr Josephs died from a stab wound to the front right side, which had been nearest to the car door.
