Getty ImagesAn underground power station built into the highest mountain in Argyll and Bute has been evacuated after smoke was detected.
Emergency services were called to the Cruachan Power Station inside Ben Cruachan, near Dalmally, at about 17:10.
Owner Drax Power said the smoke had come from inside the cavern and the site was safely evacuated.
An internal investigation has been launched into the circumstances of the incident. Police Scotland has been approached for comment.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed four fire engines were sent to the power station.
A spokesperson said there were no flames, but crews monitored the situation to prevent any threat of fire.
The last appliance left the scene just before 20:00.
The power station at the 3,694ft (1,126m) mountain was opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1965.
At the time, it was the first large-scale reversible turbine storage energy project of its kind in the world.
It features a large dam and is housed within a huge cavern dug out inside Ben Cruachan, which is nicknamed Hollow Mountain because of the project.
