Cricket World Cup League 2: Scotland suffer heavy defeat by USA

Scotland suffered a heavy defeat by USA as their trip to Nepal in Cricket World Cup League 2 ended on a negative note.

Richie Berrington’s side were bundled out for just 169 after winning the toss and opting to bat first.

Mark Watt top-scored with 66 as seven batters failed to reach double figures.

In reply, American opener Smit Patel was dropped from the first ball of the chase, which rather summed up the Scots’ day.

Patel and Shayan Jahangir got the United States ahead of the required rate early and they never ceded control, reaching their target for the loss of four wickets with 22.5 overs to spare.

“The wicket was probably a little slower than we thought it would be,” Berrington said. “We weren’t at our best. The batting didn’t quite fire. A couple of guys put in good contributions, but there just wasn’t enough support.

“When you haven’t got runs to play with, it was important to try to pick up early wickets. Unfortunately we didn’t quite manage to do that and from there you’re chasing the game.”

Scotland had moved to the top of the standings after wins over hosts Nepal and USA in Kirtipur, but have dropped back to second behind USA after successive losses.
