Coventry dancing grannies surprised at viral reaction to dance-off

A group of elderly women have gone viral on social media, after staging a dance-off at their local seniors club.

June and Julie, who are both in their 90s, were filmed dancing at the Coundon Care Seniors Club in Coventry.

Since then, the video of them busting moves and throwing shapes to the Beatles hit, I Saw Her Standing There, has been seen more than 70,000 times.

June Bowcott, 94, said being able to go to the dances put on by the club meant a great deal. “I like to make people happy. If I can walk, I can dance,” she said.

The charity, Coundon Care, was founded in 1984, and centre manager, Kay Smith, said it was created to challenge the ideas of what care for older people should look like.

“We’re not here to sit there and read a book or watch a TV screen. They can do that at home,” she said.

“We’re here to make it fun, active, make them laugh and just be young at heart like we all are.”
