‘Come hug it out!’ – How a Canadian tourism ad went viral

A video advertisement for the Eastern Townships, a holiday destination in Quebec, Canada, has gone viral after featuring a hug between a Canadian concierge and an American tourist.

The Eastern Townships’ tourism board created the advert looking to warm relations between Canada and the United States after months of taunts and tariffs between the two countries.

According to Statistics Canada, US tourism to Canada by car has dropped nearly 11% in June, and Canadian tourism to the US by car has also dropped by at least 33%.

The BBC’s Nadine Yousif dissects the ad and the message behind it.
