Collins loses to Lorente in WBC world eliminator rematch

Nathaniel Collins suffered the first defeat of his professional career in a WBC world eliminator rematch with Cristobal Lorente in Glasgow.

Fighting in front of a home crowd at The Hydro, a split decision went against the 29-year-old, the Spaniard winning by an odd 115-112, 115-112, 111-116 margin.

The featherweight pair had contested a draw at the Braehead Arena in October and again went the full 12 rounds.

Collins, who had won 17 bouts before meeting Lorente, had his southpaw opponent on the canvas in the sixth round, but the experienced former European champion showed good composure to recover quickly.

Lorente, 30, is now the mandatory challenger for the WBC title held by American Bruce Carrington.
