England Under-21 defender CJ Egan-Riley has joined Marseille on a free transfer after rejecting a new contract at Burnley.

The 22-year-old was named in the Championship team of the season after helping the Clarets break defensive records as they won promotion to the Premier League.

Burnley last week said they had offered the former Manchester City player a “significant long-term contract” but that he had “made the decision to pursue an opportunity in France”.

Egan-Riley is on duty with England at the European Under-21 Championship and will join up his new club after the tournament.
