Former defender Chris Gunter has been appointed Wales Under-19s head coach for the rest of the season.

The 36-year-old will lead the team at this summer’s European Under-19 Championship, which will be hosted in north Wales.

Gunter returns to a role he has previously held, succeeding Craig Knight who has left to join Wrexham.

After winning 109 caps for Wales over the course of a 17-year playing career, the former Cardiff City, Tottenham Hotspur, Nottingham Forest and Reading full-back retired in 2023.

He has since worked with Wales’ senior team as an assistant coach and led the country’s Under-17s and Under-19s.

”I’m really pleased to be leading this group into the finals tournament,” said Gunter.

“I’ve worked with a lot of the group before and knowing how good they can be gives me huge excitement.”
