Children’s remains found by builders, police say

Human remains found by builders working on a property are believed to belong to children who received “an isolated historical burial”, police have said.

Lancashire Police said the workers had reported finding bones in Cleveland Road, Lytham, on 15 August.

The remains have since been confirmed to be human and officers said they were “not treating this as suspicious”.

In a statement on social media, Fylde Police said: “Our enquiries have led us to understand that they may be that of children and that this is an isolated historical burial.”

Det Insp Andrew Crook added: “This is an incredibly sad discovery and we are continuing our inquiries to establish the identity of the remains, including their age and how they died.

“While we are keeping an open mind, I want to make it clear that we are not treating this as suspicious. We believe at this stage that the burial is a historic one.

“We would like to thank the homeowners and contractors for their patience while our inquiries were ongoing at the property.”

The remains have now been removed from the area.
