Celtic overcome Thistle as Rangers fire six past Spartans

Rangers bounced back from a shock early goal by Spartans to power to a 6-1 win and cement their place at the top of the SWPL1.

Erin Rennie capitalised on a mix-up at the back by the hosts to slot home past Rangers keeper Victoria Esson.

But an immediate reply from summer signing Camile Lafaix allowed Rangers to restore parity, and a quickfire second from the American opened the floodgates.

Celtic strolled to a comfortable 3-0 win over city rivals Partick Thistle courtesy of a Shannon McGregor double.

Murphy Agnew’s powerful strike was bookended by goals in each half from McGregor, who sit fourth in the table with a game in hand over Hearts and Glasgow City.

Second-placed Hearts had to wait until the second half to open the scoring against struggling Aberdeen, as Joely Andrews and Georgia Timms found a breakthrough before Sade Adamolekun wrapped up the win.

Emily Whelan was the difference maker for City, as they struggled to break down a resolute Motherwell defence to claim victory at K Park.

Hibernian bounced back from their derby day beating by Hearts to put six past top flight newcomers Queen’s Park.

Eilidh Adams claimed a hattrick as Abbie Ferguson, Kathleen McGovern – who had already seen a goal chalked off for offside – and the returning Poppy Lawson also found the net.

Chloe Muir grabbed a consolation strike for the visitors.

And Dundee United remain bottom and winless in the SWPL after local rivals Montrose snatched a late winner at Links Park.

Erin Henderson had given the hosts a first half lead with a looping effort over Beth Mowat, but Alex Moodie had levelled the scores just after the hour mark.

But Montrose grabbed victory in stoppage time courtesy of a Jade McLaren long range effort to claim all three points.
