Celebrations take place for Yorkshire Day

Under the banner of the White Rose, people across four counties have been celebrating Yorkshire Day with parades, festivals and music.

From brass bands on Emley Moor to mayoral puddings, we round up what’s been going on this 1 August to celebrate “God’s own”.

Near Huddersfield, the Emley Moor Brass Band gave a special performance beneath the 330m (1,084 ft) tall Emley Moor Transmitter.

Flugelhorn player Laura Murphy said Yorkshire Day was “the best day of the year”.

“Growing up in Huddersfield, as soon as we saw the mast, you knew you were home.

“It’s been a constant throughout my life. You look up and you see the mast. Playing here is something I’ll definitely be telling people about,” she said.
