A high school in Cardiff reported a 72% drop in violent exclusions after banning mobile phones and shouting last year.

Head teacher Mike Tate introduced the changes at Cardiff West Community High School, in Ely, to tackle social media-fuelled fights and boost classroom focus.

Pupils said they felt safer, less bullied and more engaged in lessons.

Lanre, a student, said he used to eat lunch alone but now he has “more friends and I engage in sports”.
