Car parking charges: ‘I wouldn’t pay more than 40p an hour

Environmental campaigners have branded the disparity between low car parking charges and rising public transport fares as “laughable”.

So what would people be prepared to pay for car parking?

More than a third of Northern Ireland’s councils have said they have not changed their car parking prices for nearly a decade.

Public transport fares in the same period have risen by almost 22% – including three increases since 2023.

BBC News NI asked people in Lurgan for their views on whether parking charges were fair and how much would be too much.
