US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters clashed in an exchange over President Donald Trump’s economic agenda on Wednesday.
During a routine hearing of the House Financial Services Committee, Waters, the top Democrat on the board, repeatedly pushed Bessent over his commitment to lowering prices for Americans.
Bessent pushed back, and the exchange devolved into Waters asking the Republican committee chair to ‘shut him up’. Bessent retorted asking Waters to ‘maintain some level of dignity’.
