The England Under-20 international started his career in Birmingham City’s academy before joining Liverpool when aged 15 in 2020.

“I think we have been pretty open and honest about the areas of the squad we’d like to improve [this month],” Barry-Murphy added.

“But there are no guarantees and it’s not certain we will be able to do that. We’ll just have to wait and see.”

Cardiff’s only senior signing so far in this window is goalkeeper Harry Tyrer, who arrived from Everton.

Jak Alnwick has left for Huddersfield and fellow keeper Ethan Horvath is expected to join New York Red Bulls, while a number of youngsters have been sent out on loan and Kion Etete has joined St Mirren after returning from a loan at Rotherham United.
