Bristol road closes after school bus gets stuck on tight bend

A road has been closed in both directions after a double-decker school bus got stuck on a narrow bend.

The Eurocoaches service which was taking pupils to Winterbourne Academy blocked Cleeve Wood Road in Downend, Bristol at about 08:20 GMT causing traffic delays between Amberley Road and Woodside Road.

Avon Fire and Rescue said fire crews from Temple and Kingswood attended the scene where a bus carrying school children “got stuck on an embankment” and added they were “escorted away safely” without any injuries.

Eurocoaches has declined to comment.

Two ambulances and a hazardous area response team were sent to the incident, a South Western Ambulance Service spokesperson said.

Avon Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “On arrival, they found a bus on all four wheels but stuck on an embankment.

“The bus was carrying school children, all of the children have been safely escorted from the scene, we’re pleased to confirm no injuries have been reported.

“Firefighters have now left the scene in the care of police colleagues.”

Cleeve Wood Road remains closed while the bus awaits recovery, the fire service added.
