Bristol City Women takeover by Mercury13 approved

Bristol City Women’s takeover by Mercury13 has been approved by WSL Football, with Lowri Roberts appointed as their interim chief executive officer.

The WSL 2 club announced in September that the Mercury13 group – who also own Serie A Femminile outfit Como Women – would become majority stakeholders, ending more than a decade of ownership by the Lansdown family.

Roberts worked as a coach at Bristol City Women 15 years ago and has more recently spent five years as head of women’s football at the Football Association of Wales and five years at the English FA.

“Throughout her time away from us Lowri has always remained in touch and an advocate of Bristol City Women,” said Bristol City Women board director Lisa Knights. “She is ideally placed to step into this role.”

Roberts comes in following the departure of former Bristol City Women chair and Bristol Sport CEO Gavin Marshall in October.

Bristol City Women are third in the WSL 2 table and next face Crystal Palace at home on 17 December.
