On Portland, sea conditions on the causeway were closely monitored overnight by the Environment Agency, emergency services and Dorset Council’s highways team.
With the remnants of Herminia now moved away, Dorset Council said: “We are confident that the risk of waves overtopping the causeway has now passed and Portland Beach Road remains open.”
Numerous flood warnings and alerts, external remain in place across Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Dorset, Oxfordshire and Berkshire.
A Met Office, external yellow weather warning for rain was in force across southern England until 10:00 GMT.
