Boys and man rescued after being cut off from tide in Cornwall

Jill Rylance from Falmouth Coastguards said they had received multiple 999 calls regarding a number of people who had got into difficulties in the water at Fistral Beach.

She said both Newquay lifeboats along with Newquay and Padstow coastguard rescue teams and a coastguard helicopter from south Wales were sent to help the stranded people.

Rylance said: “They were all rescued by the inshore lifeboat, with the assistance of two local surfers, and taken ashore where they were transferred into the care of the ambulance service.

“On the way back to the shore the lifeboat also came across two other children who had got into difficulty and took them to ashore as well.

“They were all rescued safely but it was quite intense to begin with.”

Fistral Beach was the scene of a double tragedy in July when a father and daughter from Doncaster in Yorkshire died after getting into trouble in the sea while fishing.

An inquest heard how John Collins, 66, had jumped into the sea to try to save his daughter Samantha, 32, on 26 July.
