Boy, 16, charged with terrorism offence

A 16-year-old boy from Nottingham has been charged with a terrorism offence.

Nottinghamshire Police said the teenager – a white Polish national – was arrested by officers from Counter Terrorism Policing East Midlands (CTPEM) on Friday.

He was charged with engaging in conduct in preparation to commit terrorist acts, contrary to section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006 the following day.

The boy, who cannot be identified due to his age, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on Monday.

Det Insp Steve Shaw, from CTPEM, said: “I understand that this arrest and charge may cause concern, but please be reassured we will continue to work with Nottinghamshire Police and partners to act on any information that indicates a potential threat.

“The safety of our communities is our number one priority and public support is vital to our mission to keep people safe.”
