American boxer Tremaine Williams is “doing well” after collapsing in the ring during a fight in California on Thursday.
Williams, 31, fell to the canvas and suffered convulsions in the first round against Ryan Allen at a Team Combat League event at Thunder Studios in Long Beach.
Doctors immediately assisted Williams and he was taken out of the ring on a stretcher before going to hospital.
Williams was fighting for the NYC Attitude team, who said after the fight he had been “discharged from the hospital” and was “doing well”.
Williams also made a statement on his Instagram, saying: “Yes, I’m fine. Doctor said I was too dehydrated.”
The super-bantamweight has a professional record of 20 wins and two losses, one of which was to Angelo Leo for the WBO super-bantamweight title in 2021.
Team Combat League are a league-based boxing outfit in the United States.
In May, Congolese boxer Ardi Ndembo died from injuries he suffered in a Team Combat League fight in Florida.
There were allegations Ndembo was knocked unconscious twice in the weeks before the bout, but the Florida State Athletic Commission declined to investigate.
Team Combat League fights do not count towards a boxer’s professional record.
