Barlinnie water supply issues resolved after three days of disruption

Water supply issues at Scotland’s largest prison, which left some inmates unable to run taps or flush toilets for nearly three days, have been resolved.

Some prisoners at two halls in Barlinnie in Glasgow first experienced problems on Thursday night and had no access to bottled water.

On Friday the Scottish Prison Service (SPS) said the issue would extend into the weekend, and visitors to the jail on Saturday told BBC Scotland News that the laundry was mounting up.

The SPS has now confirmed water is running again.

A spokesperson said: “Staff have worked tirelessly throughout the weekend and we are grateful to them and to those in our care for their understanding.”

The breakthrough comes after visitors told the BBC how inmates had been unable to shower since Thursday.
