Ayrshire garden centre ‘burned down’ after fire

A garden centre and cafe in Ayrshire has been devastated in a large overnight fire.

Hayes Garden Land, at Bogend near Symington, posted news of the blaze on social media, confirming it had “burned down”.

The company stated: “We regret to inform you that we will be CLOSED for the foreseeable future – the Garden Centre & Cafe have burned down.”

No-one was hurt in the incident, and firefighters remain at the scene.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said the were alerted to reports of a fire in the building at Bogend at 02:16.

“Operations Control mobilised four appliances to Tarbolton Road, where firefighters worked to extinguish the fire,” they added.

“One appliance remains on scene with crews working to extinguish remaining hot-spots.

“There are no casualties.”

The business opened in 1988, and the Hayes family have eight generations of experience in horticulture.

Messages of support were posted on social media by regular visitors to the centre.

One person posted: “This was such a great place to go for breakfast/lunch and a wander. My heart goes out to all the lovely staff who worked there. Let’s hope you can recover from this tragic situation.”

Another added: “Loved this place. Friendly helpful staff and the café was such a treat to visit.”
