‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ Will Hit Disney Plus in June

Avatar: Fire and Ash was in theaters nearly six months ago and, in June, the movie will hit Disney Plus

Sigourney Weaver hit the stage to deliver the news during Disney’s Upfront presentation on Tuesday. The actor revealed the third entry in James Cameron’s high-grossing franchise will make its streaming premiere on June 24.

Avatar: Fire and Ash continues the story of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) as they are hunted by Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) and his squad. Franchise newcomer Oona Chaplin plays Varang, who leads an opposing Na’vi clan that teams up with Quaritch and his military team to hunt the Sully clan.

Cameron’s first Avatar movie hit theaters in 2009, and since then, the iconic filmmaker’s vision has introduced new technologies into production and pushed the boundaries of what can be done with computer-generated effects.

His decades-long work has paid off: the original Avatar raked in $2.9 billion at the box office, making it the highest-grossing film of all time. The sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, ranks as the third-highest-grossing film of all time, just behind Avengers: Endgame. The first two Avatar movies are streaming on Disney Plus.
