A 4×4 vehicle has been destroyed in what police have described as a “reckless” arson attack in County Londonderry.

Police said a Land Rover Discovery was located on fire outside a property in the Millstone area of Portstewart at about 01.30 GMT on Monday.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) also attended the scene.

“Luckily no one was injured but this was a reckless act,” Det Insp Lavery said.

“On police arrival, NIFRS were present and attempting to control the fire however, this took some time given the extent of the blaze.

“This appeared to have been a deliberate attack on the vehicle,” the officer said.

Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
