Angus Council apologises after using swear word in social media response

Angus Council has apologised after using a swear word to a person who commented on its social media post about roadworks.

The council warned that freezing temperatures on Friday meant overnight works in Kirriemuir and Forfar had to be suspended.

The Courier reported that a man replied to the post saying “all stop” and tagged another person.

The Angus Council Facebook account responded explaining why the roadworks were essential before ending with an expletive phrase.

The council’s comment read: “Unfortunately this work is essential to keep the roads and pavements safe and unfortunately, this was always the risk doing the work in January which was the preference for the local businesses.

“If the pavements and road were left in the state they are in, there was a real risk of an accident if someone tripped into the road.”

The council then used a phrase which included a swear word at the end of the comment, which was later deleted, and comments were closed on the original post.

A spokesperson said: “We apologise for inappropriate language that was contained within a response on our Facebook account on Friday.

“It did not meet our usual standards, and appropriate steps are being taken to address this.”
