Americans react to Trump’s ‘whole civilisation will die’ warning

US President Donald Trump escalated his threats against Iran, warning “a whole civilisation will die tonight” unless a deal was reached on reopening the Strait of Hormuz by Tuesday night.

Hours later, the president announced a ceasefire with Iran if the Strait of Hormuz is reopened.

BBC spoke to Americans from across the country in Washington DC about their take on the president’s earlier statement and their stand on the war with Iran.
