A mine shaft collapse in Alloa is “completely unrelated” to ground movement in a nearby village that has seen 97 families evacuated, according to a mining body.
The exposed mine shaft was noticed on Monday by businessman Derek Hanna, who said it was about a metre from a portable cabin at his car dealership on Clackmannan Road.
The road was closed while the Mining Remediation Authority (MRA) fenced off the site and filled the shaft with stone to stabilise it.
The MRA said it had been an isolated incident and was not related to the recent evacuation in Coalsnaughton, a former mining village which is about four miles away.
Clackmannanshire Council said the road reopened on Monday evening.
Derek Hanna said: “I left the garage on Saturday night at half past five and everything was fine.
“I was in on Monday morning and I noticed there was a massive hole, so I got a ladder and had a look in, it was about five or six metres round.”
