Judge Shaun Smith KC set a date of 19 May for the trial, which is expected to last two to three weeks.
Ms Armstrong – mother to a six-year-old boy – died at the scene in Batley Lane.
Mr Newton-Kay was taken to hospital where one of his legs had to be amputated below the knee, said police.
A £20,000 reward has been offered by Crimestoppers for key information about Ms Armstrong’s death.
On Friday, Derbyshire Police appealed for a person who left a note, due to “poor parking”, on a Land Rover Discovery in Mansfield to come forward.
Police said the note was left on the vehicle, parked in the Jacksons Park area, overnight on 26 November into the following day.
