Afghanistan: Child taken by floodwaters saved by a stranger

Devastating floods in north-east Afghanistan saw homes swept away, roads destroyed and hundreds killed last week.

The BBC spent a day in one of the worst affected villages, speaking to people and hearing some incredible stories – including that of a child being rescued from the floodwaters.

Zulaikha, 10, was floating on her back near a tree when she was spotted and saved by 18-year-old Elhamuddin.

The BBC’s Caroline Davies has her story.
