Calum McCombie died after getting into difficulty while surfing in Australia

A funeral is to be held for an Aberdeen man who died in a surfing accident in Australia.

Calum McCombie, 36, got into difficulty when his surfboard snapped off the coast of Frankston, Victoria, about 33 miles (54km) from Melbourne on 22 October during high winds.

Rescue crews were able to pull Mr McCombie and his friend, 43, from the water but they could not be saved.

Mr McCombie’s funeral is scheduled to be held on 24 November.

In a short statement posted on social media, they wrote: “Calum will be sorely missed and be forever in our hearts.”
