Salmond sets out terms for Alba support of Yousaf

Alba party leader Alex Salmond has detailed the conditions the SNP must meet should his party support First Minister Humza Yousaf in a confidence vote.

Speaking to BBC Scotland’s The Sunday Show programme, Mr Salmond said it was “self-evident” Alba’s sole MSP, Ash Regan, was in a “highly influential position”.

The SNP must renew its focus on Scottish independence, move away from “identity politics”, and “get back to the people’s priorities of housing, health, transport, education and – above all – jobs and industry,” should Ms Regan lend Humza Yousaf her support, the former first minister said.

Mr Yousaf faces a confidence vote in his leadership after the SNP’s power sharing deal with the Scottish Green party collapsed.

The SNP leader appears to have ruled out an electoral pact with Alba – a proposal Mr Salmond told the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg programme his party is “not particularly bothered by”.
