Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a man who was left in a critical condition after violence broke out in a village.

Anthony “Tony” Jones, 56, from Brecon suffered life-threatening injuries in an incident to which Gwent Police firearms officers were called in Pontnewynydd, near Pontypool, on Thursday.

The force said seven men aged 31, 39, 40, 45, 59, 61, and 73 had been arrested in connection to “disorder” and all seven remained in police custody.

Officers have appealed for anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage from the area between 19:00 and 19:30 BST to contact them.
