Double Commonwealth Games gold medallist Olivia Breen has been named captain of Team Wales for Glasgow 2026.

The 29-year-old will lead the team of 115 athletes out at what is her fourth Commonwealth Games.

She won gold in the T38 100m in Birmingham 2022, having won a bronze medal in the same event as well as T38 long jump gold on the Gold Coast four years earlier.

“It means so much,” said Breen. “I can’t wait to see Team Wales do everything to make everyone in Wales proud.

“Wales is a big part of me and I was team captain for the athletics team but obviously being captain for the whole Wales team, it’s just mind blowing.”

Breen has won two Paralympic bronze medals, in the T35-38 4x100m relay at London 2012 and in the T38 long jump at the delayed Tokyo Games in 2021.

On Breen’s selection as captain, Team Wales’ Chef de Mission Gethin Jones said: “It’s not just about success, it’s the way she is.

“She’s amazing with the team, she’s always got a smile on her face, she really believes in Wales and I think she’s the perfect choice.”

The Games get under way in Glasgow on 23 July, running until 2 August.

Athletes will compete across 10 different sports with 67 female and 48 male competitors in Team Wales and ages ranging from 16 to 73 years old.
