Two Israeli soldiers jailed over smashing of Jesus statue in Lebanon | World News

Two Israeli soldiers have been removed from combat duty and are to serve 30 days detention after a statue of Jesus was destroyed.

The Israeli military sentenced the soldiers after a picture emerged over the weekend of the IDF soldier appearing to use a sledgehammer on the icon, which was taken in southern Lebanon.

One of the IDF troops had smashed the statue and the other had taken a picture of the act.

Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has condemned the image “in the strongest terms”.
