Jacob Host: St Helens back rower out for four months with broken leg

St Helens will be without back-rower Jacob Host for four months after he suffered a broken leg.

Host, 29, joined the club for the 2026 season from NRL side South Sydney Rabbitohs but suffered the injury in their win against Bradford at the weekend.

That was only his fourth game for Saints since his move from Australia.

“He’s gone in for surgery today. We think that’s gone really well, but he’s out for four months, so that’s a real shame,” assistant boss Eamon O’Carroll told BBC Radio Merseyside.

“I don’t think we’ve seen the best of Hosty, but him and his family have settled in really well to the club, so it’s real shame for him as he’s going to be a big loss.”

In addition to Host’s absence, Saints will be without George Delaney for this weekend’s Challenge Cup tie with Castleford Tigers after he failed a head injury assessment.

Meanwhile, Nene Macdonald is being assessed, having come off in the first half against Bradford with a leg injury.

“Nene’s knee has been grumbling him on for a bit,” O’Carroll added.

“He had to come off during the game, so he’s had some imaging done and we’ll get the results today.”
