Murder investigation after man found dead in flat in Syston

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after another man was found dead in a flat in Leicestershire.

Police were called at 11:46 GMT on Tuesday to a flat in George Toon Court, off Brook Street in Syston, where a man in his 40s was found unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Leicestershire Police confirmed a 49-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.

The force said it believed the two men were known to each other.

Police are continuing to carry out inquiries, which has included speaking to residents and examining CCTV to establish the movements of the man prior to his death.

A scene preservation is also in place to allow forensic officers and a specialist search team to examine the flat.

Det Insp Kevin Hames, senior investigating officer, said: “The victim and the man in custody are known to each other and while our investigation is still in its early stage, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident at this time.

“There are officers in the area who are speaking to people who may have seen or heard anything that could assist with our investigation.

“If you have not been spoken to but have some information that could be useful, please contact us.”
