The Hundred: Brydon Carse ruled out of competition for Northern Superchargers

England fast bowler Brydon Carse will not play for Northern Superchargers in this year’s The Hundred competition after consulting medical staff.

Carse, who played in four of England’s five Tests against India in the recently-drawn series, has been replaced by 24-year-old Lancashire quick Mitchell Stanley at the Leeds-based team.

In June, the 30-year-old said he had considered having his toe amputated after the strain of bowling meant he developed severe cuts on the second toe of his left foot which became infected.

After missing the Champions Trophy earlier this year, Carse was a key member of England’s bowling unit against India, taking nine wickets, but did not play in the final Test at The Oval.

“At the end of a long series against India and following consultation with the medical staff, I am sadly not able to play for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred this year,” said South African-born Carse.

“I look forward to watching on from the sidelines and to representing the team again in the future.”

Superchargers open their Hundred campaign against Welsh Fire at Headingly on Thursday at 18:30 BST.

Carse’s foot injury hampered him during England’s white-ball tour of India at the start of the year and eventually led to him being ruled out of the Champions Trophy and the following three months.

During the third Test at Lord’s last month, though, Carse pinned both Karun Nair and India captain Shubman Gill leg before late on to keep England’s hopes alive.
