Person taken to hospital after fire at sheltered housing

One person has been taken to hospital after fire broke out at a sheltered housing complex in Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said crews found a “well-developed” blaze when they arrived at Mearnsview Court on Broomburn Drive on Friday morning.

Six appliances were sent to tackle a fire at a second-floor flat in a three-storey building after the alarm was raised at about 10:30.

One person has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, while four others were treated at the scene.
