Fred Onyedinma: Wycombe Wanderers report racist abuse of midfielder to police

Wycombe Wanderers midfielder Fred Onyedinma was subjected to racist abuse by a visiting supporter during Saturday’s 0-0 draw at home to Wigan, the club have said.

The Chairboys, who have reported the incident to Thames Valley Police, pledged their full backing to the 28-year-old in a statement posted on the League One club’s website, external.

“The club will assist fully with the investigation,” read Wycombe’s statement. “We applaud Fred and those supporters in the vicinity of the incident who also reported the matter.

“The club offers its full support to the player and reaffirms its zero tolerance policy for discrimination of any kind.”

Wigan have also promised to assist the police investigation, declaring that the club were “appalled and saddened” to learn of the incident.

“There is no room for racism in football or society, and the club strictly enforces a zero tolerance policy towards all forms of discrimination,” the Latics statement , externaladded.
