Andre Gray: Plymouth Argyle striker aiming to ‘find his rhythm’

Gray says he worked hard to keep himself fit over the summer after returning from Saudi Arabia, where he moved after a season at Greek side Aris.

He is one of Argyle’s most-experienced players in terms of Championship appearances and says he is open to extending his short-term deal at Home Park.

“I’m happy here,” he told BBC Radio Devon.

“It’s going to be down to me to perform, score goals and do as well as I can, and it’s down to the club then.”

And he says he has been inspired by Argyle head coach Rooney. The former England captain is his country’s second-highest international goalscorer and Gray says the chance to work with him was one he could not turn down.

“He’s an icon in this country, arguably in my opinion, the best to ever come out of this country,” he said.

“So it’s obviously an honour and you can’t not learn from him.

“But at the end of the day us as players are not on his level, that’s why we’re where we are now in the Championship and he was where he was.

“It’s just finding a balance, I’m sure it’s similar for him. You can’t expect us to do what he could.”
