Ingram named Glamorgan player of the year

“You never know when it’s your last day out there and I’m trying to enjoy my batting and making the most of my time in the sun,” Ingram told BBC Sport Wales.

“One of these days I will have to hang up my boots and these days (of success) won’t be around.”

Ingram’s haul of 1351 runs in division two of the Championship was 20 ahead of Durham’s David Bedingham in division one, and included at least a half-century in each of his 11 matches as well as a maiden double-century.

“My mum kept reminding me I need another 50 (in each game) and I said it doesn’t always work out this way,” joked Ingram.

“It has been a season that has gone well, and I’ve enjoyed my batting. Coming into this year I didn’t know how many more I’d have, but being committed to the process and enjoying my batting has been the secret to my success.”

Ingram is happy to take his remaining time in the game a year at a time, depending on his form – which shows no sign of slipping – and fitness, with occasional rests in 2024.

“To look at more than one more season is daunting, I said that coming into this year and it’s gone ok, so hopefully another one and we’ll see where we go from there.”
