007 First Light Makes a Bold Move by Retelling Bond’s Origin Story

Wednesday’s State of Play was Sony’s showcase to reveal some of the titles coming to the PS5 in the future. One of the big games shown was 007 First Light, which had already been revealed earlier in the week. 

Developed by IO Interactive, 007 First Light is about the origins of James Bond. Instead of the veteran spy on a new mission to save the world, this time we’re seeing a young aircrewman from the Royal Navy being recruited by MI6 to become a 00 agent.

The Bond from First Light is younger and on an original adventure that explores his origin story. In the trailer, Bond is selected for the 00 program and is being taught the ropes. While the trailer doesn’t go into a lot of detail about the game’s story, there was a mention of 009, which comes off as them being the real villain that Bond will have to chase down. 

As expected with a game from this franchise, the game will feature exotic locales, new gadgets from Q, some stealth action, and a combination of gunplay and hand-to-hand combat. The trailer didn’t show much of the gameplay, but there will be another reveal later this summer. 

007: First Light will come out in 2026 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series consoles, and the Switch 2.
