War protesters chain themselves to RAF Lakenheath entrance

Several protesters have blocked the main entrance of a military base used by the US Air Force (USAF).

Suffolk Police said it was called just before 07:00 GMT to reports of a “small protest” outside RAF Lakenheath, in Suffolk.

According to the protest group No More Bloody Wars, the demonstration is against “illegal wars” involving the USA and timed to coincide with Tuesday’s midterm elections.

The US Air Force has been approached for a comment.

Ten protesters used heavy-duty locks to attach themselves to a car and to each other outside the base entrance.

The group called on the British government to shut down American bases in the UK, to remove what it said was complicity in conflicts in the Middle East.
