Lisburn manufacturer to create 100 jobs

A Lisburn-based engineering firm is creating 100 jobs as part of a £20m investment.

It is the first stage of a planned expansion since Camlin was taken over by Siemens Energy earlier this year.

Chief Executive Peter Cunningham said the move was “a powerful statement of confidence in Northern Ireland, our people and our technology”.

He said his ambition was to create a business on the scale of Almac, the Craigavon-based pharmaceutical firm which has annual sales of over £1bn.

Camlin primarily makes equipment which monitors the performance of electricity grids.

As the continued growth of renewable energy makes grid management more complicated there is a growing market for Camlin’s predictive products.

In 2024, the company made a pre-tax profit of £8.4m on turnover of £88m.

The investment was welcomed by Martin McCluskey, junior minister at the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.

“The clean energy transition is set to support hundreds of thousands of good jobs and drive growth in every part of the UK,” he said.

“The more than 100 new jobs on the way at Camlin and Siemens Energy reflect what that means in practice.”

The most recent official statistics suggest that Northern Ireland’s manufacturing sector has been experiencing a period of strong performance since the middle of 2025.

In the second quarter of this year output was up by an annual rate of 9%, taking it to a 10 year high.

That far outstripped the average UK performance with manufacturing output up by just 1.2% over the year.

The NI performance may have been driven by companies which supply data centre builders.

The computer, electronic, electrical and optical products sub-sector grew by an annual rate of more than 25% in the second quarter.

It includes firms manufacturing power supply systems for data centres and the Seagate factory in Londonderry whose data storage products are in high demand.
